BOSTON - Juniors Danielle Abraham (Waukesha, Wis.) and Cori Lefkowith (Clayton, Mo.) and sophomore Francine Whu (Staten Island, N.Y.) were all named 2008 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes this week.
Abraham is a three-time honoree, while Lefkowith has earned the award for the last two years. This is Whu's first recognition.
Abraham is a biology major who played at the No. 4, 5, 6 singles spots and finished with a 17-13 record. Lefkowith is a communications major and played third and fourth singles, going 9-0 at No. 4 and finishing the year with a team-best 17-11 record. Whu, a sociology major, was the 2008 America East Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Performer. She played the whole season at No. 1 singles, a year after playing fourth singles.
All three made the All-America East First Team, and each was named to the America East All-Academic team.
In order to qualify for the award, athletes had to be varsity letter winners with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher for the current academic year and be enrolled in their present institutions for at least two semesters.
