NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshmen Vivien Laszloffy and Jessi Linero along with sophomores Monika Mical and Petra Santini represented the Boston University women's tennis team at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Indoor Championships this past weekend on the campus of Yale University.
Competing in a 96-player field, Laszloffy led the way by reaching the round of 32 in singles action after advancing to the round of 16 in doubles with Mical. As the No. 17 seed, she received a first round bye and then defeated Albany's Susan Ma, 6-2, 6-2, before falling to Yale's No. 6 seed Vicky Brook in three sets on Monday, 1-6, 6-0, 6-2.
Both Mical and Santini each pulled out opening round victories before falling to seeded players in the round of 64. Santini captured the first set, but Yale's Stephanie Kent rallied back for the 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory
In doubles, Laszloffy and Mical reached the round of 16 by defeating teams from Colgate and Brown before falling to Buffalo's No. 4 seeded Harajanto/Popescu. The Terriers hung tough but couldn't pull off the upset, dropping an 8-6 decision.
