Softball Falls to Ball State in Extra Innings, 6-5

Clearwater, Fla. - The Boston University softball team (10-4) suffered a 6-5 loss in eight innings to Ball State (6-9) on Tuesday afternoon in Clearwater, Fla. Sophomore April Setterlund was 2-for-3 in the batter's box, while classmate Caitlin Rentler knocked in two runs in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. The Terriers will remain in Florida for the USF Under Armour Showcase from March 13-15.

Five different Terriers recorded hits, including Setterlund and senior Melissa Dubay, who have each safely hit in seven consecutive contests. Senior Nora Militz was the other Terriers with a multiple hits, as she went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Junior hurler Cassidi Hardy got the nod in the circle, going six innings with five strikeouts. She allowed five runs - one earned - and one walk. Classmate Megan Currier pitched the final 1.1 innings and was charged with the loss, as she falls to 4-2 on the season.

BU found itself in a 3-0 hole in the third inning, but mounted a comeback with a three-run fifth frame. Militz got things started with an RBI double to left center and Setterlund followed suit with a sacrifice flyout to center field. Dubay closed out the rally, driving in senior Brooke Hudson.

In the sixth inning, Ball State again went up by two runs and Rentler closed the gap a half an inning later with a two-run double that plated Dubay and Setterlund.

In the extra frame, Ball State retired the Terriers in order before knocking in the game-winning run with a single to right center.

BU will remain in Clearwater, Fla., for the USF Under Armour Showcase from March 13-15.
