Box Score
Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
Senior Nora Militz went a perfect 3-for-3 from the batter's box with one home run, while classmate Christy Leath drove in two runs in the Boston University softball team's (17-7) 5-0 victory over cross-town rival Boston College (9-14) on Wednesday evening at Shea Field. Junior Cassidi Hardy threw a complete-game shutout, recording eight strikeouts and allowing just one hit and three walks.
The Terriers got five runs on eight hits, while defensively they recorded their conference-high 15th double play of the season.
Militz broke the scoreless deadlock with a blast to centerfield in the top of the second inning and just one frame later Leath drove in two runs on a single to center field, as sophomore April Setterlund and senior Melissa Dubay came home to give BU a 3-0 lead.
Later on in that same inning, the Terriers had a golden opportunity with a bases-loaded situation and freshman Emily Roesch came through with a single to second base that plated Setterlund.
In the fifth, BU tacked on one more as junior Rachel Hebert came home on an error by the pitcher. After two scoreless innings, the Terriers again loaded the bases following back-to-back walks; however, the Eagles' defense was able to throw a base runner out at second to get out of the jam. Hardy retired the Eagles' batters in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory.
The Terriers will make a quick turnaround and host Atlantic 10 foe Rhode Island on Thursday (March 26) at 2:30 p.m.
