Senior Brooke Hudson came up big for the Boston University softball team over the weekend, recording a hit in each of the squad's four NCAA Atlanta Regional contests, including a solo home run vs. Iowa and an RBI double vs. Auburn, as the Terriers made it to the regional championship game for the first time in 13 years. For her efforts, Hudson has been named this week's GoTerriers.com Student-Athlete of the Week.
Hudson, a senior co-captain, led the Terriers to two NCAA wins for the first time since 1996. The fourth-seeded squad in the Atlanta Regional, BU eliminated Iowa, 3-1, and Auburn, 5-0, in the double-elimination tourney, but fell in the title bout to the Yellow Jackets, 7-2.
Facing elimination, the La Porte, Texas, native went deep for just the third time this season to break a scoreless deadlock in the second inning with the Hawkeyes on Saturday night. The next morning against Auburn, she connected on another clutch hit when her RBI double to right center field capped off a three-run first inning for the Terriers. Later on in the game, she scored on a two-run blast by freshman Emily Roesch, as the squad cruised past the Tigers, 5-0.
Hudson also displayed her defensive prowess during the tournament, which included a spectacular diving stop against Georgia Tech in the championship game where she snagged a long throw from right field and dove to her left to tag Whitney Haller, who was sliding towards the bag. She made no errors through four games from third base.
