BOSTON - Courtney Oliver, a 2008 graduate of Hofstra, has been tabbed to join the softball coaching staff at Boston University as announced by head coach Shawn Rychcik. Oliver, who made four straight appearances in the NCAA Regionals, was a member of four Colonial Athletic Association championship teams and was a two-time All-CAA First Team honoree with the Pride.
"I am excited to have Courtney take the assistant position," said Rychcik. "She brings playing and coaching experience that will help us build on last year's Regional Final appearance. She went to the NCAAs all four years at Hofstra and made it to the finals in three of those years. That is a lot of experience and knowledge that we are looking forward to having."
In those four NCAA appearances, Oliver and the Pride reached the Regional Finals three times. The Swansea, Mass., native was a two-time first team all-league selection as a pitcher and designated player. She was also named to the 2008 All-CAA Tournament team.
For her career, she ranks in the top-10 on Hofstra's career RBI (117) list. In the pitching circle, she ranks in the top-10 for career appearances (74), starts (50), wins (32) and strikeouts (258) in addition to providing two career no-hitters. She was part of the winningest class in school history, registering 166 wins in four seasons (166-64). In her senior season, she was 10-3 in the circle with a 1.12 ERA and led the Pride with four home runs and 40 RBI, highlighted by a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 11th in the CAA championship game against James Madison.
Following graduation, Oliver gained experience in the sports industry with a stint at the Pawtucket Red Sox before accepting a post with the Monmouth softball team as the squad's pitching coach during the 2008-09 academic year. While with the Hawks, Oliver designed pitching, hitting and conditioning workouts and assisted on the road with recruiting.
Oliver's responsibilities as an assistant at Boston University will include working with the pitching staff and spearheading BU's recruiting efforts. She graduated from Hofstra in 2008 with a degree in business administration.
