BOSTON - The Boston University women's tennis team will welcome two freshmen and one transfer to the roster for the 2009-10 season, head coach Lesley Sheehan announced. Vivien Laszloffy, Jessica Linero and Monika Mical join a squad that returns the top three singles players that helped the Terriers reach the NCAA tournament for the 11th consecutive season.
Joining BU from Budapest, Hungary, Laszloffy was the No. 1 ranked player age 18 and under in her native country and had reached as high as 15th overall. She also achieved an ITF ranking of 160.
A four-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net, Linero hails from Key Biscayne, Fla. She ranked 13th in the state of Florida in the Under-16s and 60th overall in the nation. She's also in the top 35 for 18 and under in Florida.
Originally from Stalowa Wola, Poland, Mical competed in the No. 1 singles and doubles positions at Penn State last season as a freshman, posting a singles mark of 12-20. Before joining the Nittany Lions, she ranked No. 13 in Poland.
Though the schedule has not been finalized yet, the Terriers are slated to appear in the second annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend in January as a result of finishing the 2008-09 season ranked 59th in the nation. BU will need to win its way out of a four-team regional hosted by the Miami Hurricanes to earn a berth in the 15-team national team indoor championships.
