
Women's Tennis Defeats UMBC, 5-2

BOSTON - The Boston University women's tennis team returned from a two-week break to defeat UMBC, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Track and Tennis Center. Sophomore Stefanie Nunic and freshman Vivien Laszloffy led the way with a victory at the top doubles spot and comfortable wins in singles action.
The Terriers (3-7) captured two of the three doubles contests for the first point and then won four of the six singles matches to drop the Retrievers to 4-3 on the season.
Nunic/Laszloffy knocked off Alice Chen/Heidi Danielsson, 8-1, and Francine Whu along with Monika Mical defeated Carmen Jackman/Emily Mannix, 8-4, to secure the point. Lorena Valente/Barbara Couto slipped by Petra Santini and Jessi Linero, 8-6, to avoid the sweep.
Laszloffy added the next point by only dropping two games against Danielsson for a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Nunic defeated Jackman in the top spot with a 6-3, 6-1 victory, and Mical secured the victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Mannix in the No. 5 contest.
The last three singles matches went to three sets. Santini dropped the first set but back to defeat Valente, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Both Whu and Linero won their first sets, but the Retrievers rallied to earn two points. Chen beat Whu, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, and Couto pulled out a third-set tie breaker for a 0-6, 7-5, 10-5 win over Linero.
The Terriers will next travel to Puerto Rico during spring break to face off against
