BOSTON - In the midst of a record-setting season, junior April Setterlund has been named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Northeast Region First Team, while senior hurler Cassidi Hardy has been named to the region's second team, the organization announced on Thursday afternoon.
Setterlund continues to impress in her junior campaign, as she remains in the top 10 nationally in three statistical categories: batting average (5th, .497), slugging percentage (7th, .897) and on-base percentage (3rd, .596). It is the second NFCA honor this season for the Torrance, Calif. native, as she was previously named the NFCA Division I National Player of the Week back in March. Heading into this weekend's NCAA showdown with No. 10 Arizona State, Setterlund has already broken five single-season records (hits, doubles, RBI and runs) and is two home runs away from her sixth of the year.
Recently, Setterlund was named the America East Player of the Year, while also picking up All-Conference First Team honors for the third-straight season. She is just the sixth player in program history to be named to the first team at least three times in a respective career.
Hardy, the 2010 America East Pitcher of the Year, recently pitched every single inning for the Terriers during their run to the conference crown. For her efforts, she was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament, after pitching all 27 innings, striking out 34 batters and allowing just three earned runs in four games.
The senior right-hander owns a 2.15 ERA with a 20-8 overall record. In 188.2 innings pitched, she has struck out 251 batters - a career high - ranking second among league leaders.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
