BOSTON - Game one of the three-game series between the Boston University softball team and Hartford was suspended due to rain Saturday afternoon and will resume Sunday (May 9) at 12 p.m. with the Terriers leading, 5-0, in the top of the fourth. BU will honor four seniors in between the conclusion of the first contest and beginning of the second.
Senior Cassidi Hardy has eight strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings pitched and received all of her offensive support in the bottom of the first.
Classmate Rachel Hebert led off with her 10th homerun of the season. Junior April Setterlund and sophomore Emily Roesch followed with back-to-back doubles.
After freshman Whitney Tuthill walked, junior Caitlin Rentler then singled up the middle to give BU a 3-0 lead. Freshman Taylor Cowan popped up to left, but the Hawks dropped the ball, allowing Rentler and Tuthill to score.
Earlier in the day, Maine dropped the first of two games to Stony Brook, giving BU the No. 1 seed for the America East tournament no matter the outcome of the remaining games against Hartford. One BU victory on Sunday will propel the Terriers to sole possession of the regular season title, their first since 2007.
