Lauren Hynes has signed her National Letter of Intent and will join the Boston University softball program in 2013, as announced by head coach Shawn Rychcik.
Hynes, a left-handed pitcher, will join the Terriers from Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, Calif., where she has helped lead her team to two conference championships (2009 and 2010) and three-straight Division I State Playoffs (2009, 2010, 2011).
"Lauren has great mound presence and will add a new look to our pitching staff coming from the left side," said Rychcik, who enters his eight season at the helm of Terriers' softball. "We will also get a chance to use her left-handed at bat in the line-up, as she can also play first base when needed. Lauren will be a great addition for us and should have a great career here."
Hynes is currently a member of the Power surge travel team in San Diego, Calif., which is managed by Fred Sanders. She previously played for the San Diego Renegades and participated at the 2010 Gold Nationals.
Hynes, the 2010 Torrey Pines Student-Athlete Award recipient, is a three-time First-Team All-Conference Selection (2009-11) as well as a three-time First-Team All-North County selection (2009-11). She was also honored as a Second-Team All-State (San Diego Section) honoree (2009-11).
Boston University has averaged 34 wins with three America East regular season championships over the past six seasons and have made two trips to the NCAA Regionals. The Terriers will open the 2012 season against Illinois St. on Feb. 24, at the NFCA Lead-Off Classic in Clearwater, Fla.
