March 13, 2011 | Softball
TAMPA, Fla. - The Boston University softball team (6-5) dropped a 2-1 decision to Central Michigan on the last day of the USF Under Armour Showcase. Redshirt freshman Jayme Mask scored the Terriers' lone run of the game.
Sophomore Whitney Tuthill was charged with the loss in the pitcher's circle, as she pitched a full game, recording one strikeout and surrendering two earned runs on three hits and one walk.
Mask scored BU's only run in the first inning after reaching base on a single to left field. She subsequently advanced to second on a wild pitch and then stole third just as senior April Setterlund was swiping second. During the double steal a wayward throw gave her time to cross home plate.
The lead would hold up until the third when CMU responded with a run of its own and then scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh on a double to left field.
BU will remain in Florida for the next week. On Tuesday it will take on Colorado State in a doubleheader beginning at noon, and follow up with a single against Quinnipiac on Wednesday at 12 p.m.
