BOSTON - Senior April Setterlund and redshirt freshman Chelsea Kehr of the Boston University softball team have been named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Northeast Region First Team, the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association announced Thursday afternoon. Freshman Holli Floetker was named to the region's second team.
Setterlund, the first two-time America East Player of the Year since Jamie Haas ('05), graduates this May as one of the program's all-time greats. The Torrance, Calif., native boasts six career records and six single-season marks. She is the program's first-ever NFCA First Team All-American and a four-time AE All-Conference First Team selection. She is the all-time leader in batting average, hits, doubles, RBI, runs and slugging percentage. In 2011, Setterlund led the America East in hits (59), doubles (14) and walks (40), to go along with two grand slams on the season. Nationally, she ranks sixth in on-base percentage (.574), 20th in batting average (.344) and 36th in stolen bases (27).
Since returning to the diamond after redshirting her freshman season, Kehr, the 2011 America East Rookie of the Year and All-Conference Second Team honoree, earned a starting position at first base and has hit in the four spot for most of the season. With that prime spot in the batting lineup, she has been an RBI machine, driving in 46 runs, which is second all-time at BU for a single season. She has hit 10 home runs, including three grand slams, and batted .500 in conference action, hitting at least one home run off each America East team.
Floetker made an immediate impact as a rookie, becoming just the second freshman ever to win America East Pitcher of the Year honors since BU's Megan Currier picked up the award back in 2007. Named to the AE All-Conference First Team, she was first in the conference in ERA (1.80) and earned a 14-5 record in the circle and 7-1 mark in conference action. She held opposing offenses to a .219 batting average and struck out a team-high 114 batters, including 19 in the AE tourney.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
