CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior R.J. Page of the Boston University men's track & field team and senior April Setterlund of the softball team have been named 2011 America East Scholar-Athletes, the conference office announced Wednesday.
A committee of athletic administrators and NCAA Faculty Athletics Representatives chose an honoree in each of the eight spring championship sports. Each America East Scholar-Athlete was a starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.20. These eight student-athletes will automatically be nominated for the male and female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award recognized by the conference in late July.
Page completed his junior year as an economics, business administration and management major with a 3.37 GPA. At the America East Outdoor Track & Field Championship, he earned the Most Outstanding Track Performer award as well as the Coaches' Award for compiling the highest point total. Page captured the 100-meter and 200-meter dash titles, and helped set a new championship record in the 4x100 relay. Page received America East All-Academic honors this spring.
Setterlund is a two-time America East Player of the Year and was an America East Woman of the Year finalist. The senior was also a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS award and was a member of the 2011 America East All-Academic Team. She graduated with a 3.34 GPA and a degree in business administration and management this spring after leading the Terriers to the AE regular-season title and a 34-18 record. Setterlund earned her second-straight All-America honor this spring and became the program's all-time leader in multiple categories, including batting average, hits, runs and RBIs.
