BOSTON - The Boston University women's tennis team will welcome two freshmen to the roster for the 2011-12 season, 27th-year head coach Lesley Sheehan announced Monday. Sami Lieb and Sophie Wyman join a squad that returns all six singles players who helped the Terriers reach the NCAA tournament for the 13th consecutive season back in May.
The two-member recruiting class ranked 11th in the annual TennisRecruiting.net mid-major poll, marking an improvement of seven spots from the previous year.
"Sami will be a great asset to our program," Sheehan said. "She is a top nationally-ranked junior tennis player and will contribute in both singles and doubles.
"Sophie is a terrific student-athlete and will be a great addition to our team," she added. "I am looking forward to coaching both of them throughout their college careers."
Hailing from Newtown, Pa., the 5-foot-9 Lieb is a five-star recruit who was named Player of the Decade by The Trentonian. Competing for Princeton Day School, she went undefeated as a freshman and junior. A two-time Mercer County Player of the Year honoree, she also captured three state titles,
A native of Naples, Fla., Wyman was actually born in Springfield, Mass. Competing for Barron Collier H.S., she was a two-time district singles champion. Her junior year, she won the regional singles and doubles title before finishing runner-up in the state doubles final. That season, she earned All-County and All-Conference Team honors.
The Terriers will have a total of 10 women on roster and will look to capture their 19th straight America East title this season.
