LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Four members of the 2012 America East champion Boston University softball team have earned All-America Scholar-Athlete accolades, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced last week.
Graduates Erica Casacci and Melanie Delgado, senior Emily Roesch and junior Jayme Mask all achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2011-12 academic year while helping the Terriers earn their third NCAA berth in four seasons.
The only starter with a perfect fielding percentage, Casacci hit .274 on the season and led the team with 14 sacrifice hits. Playing in the outfield, she finished her collegiate career with 43 hits, 23 runs and seven RBIs.
A first baseman, Delgado batted .218 with two home runs, including a three-run shot that lifted BU to a 3-1 win over Maine in the first round of the America East tournament. She also recorded 15 RBIs, including a game-tying run off a single in the bottom of the ninth that helped lead the Terriers to a extra-inning NCAA victory over Iona.
Named to the NFCA All-Northeast Region Second Team and America East All-Conference First Team, Mask led the Terriers with a .367 batting average and 61 hits. Playing in the outfield and serving as leadoff hitter, she recorded a team-high four triples and finished tied for first on the team with 39 runs scored.
A graduate student academically, Roesch missed the 2011 season due to injury and returned to second base this past spring. She went on to earn All-Conference First Team honors by hitting .281 and bashing five home runs along with 10 doubles. She was also tabbed the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball.
All four Terriers along with six other teammates were placed on the America East Academic Honor Roll this past year for recording a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
