CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After dropping a combined four games in singles and doubles action against UMBC, sophomore Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis of the Boston University women's tennis team has been named America East Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday evening.
Earning her first-ever weekly honor, the 2011 America East All-Conference First Team honoree dropped just three games at No. 2 singles for a 6-1, 6-2 win over UMBC's Shalini Sahoo. Earlier in doubles, she teamed with junior Jessi Linero in a dominating 8-1 victory in the top slot.
Athanasiadis' efforts helped BU improve to 4-0 this season. The Terriers will next visit Harvard on Friday, Feb. 24.
