CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Leading the Boston University women's tennis team with a pair of singles victories over Spring Break, sophomore Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis has been tabbed America East Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The award marks her second of the season after she earned first career award back on Feb. 16.
She started with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 against Rutgers' Jennifer Holzberg and then followed with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win over No. 74 College of Charleston's No. 1 player, Kelly Kambourelis.
On Saturday facing off against Davidson, the 67th-ranked doubles pair of Athanasiadis and junior Jessi Linero rolled past the Wildcats' top duo, 8-1. She was en route to a third singles victory but her match was called late in the second when BU had clinched the team victory by winning three other singles contests.
The Terriers will next travel to Syracuse, N.Y., to face off against Binghamton on Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m.
