RICHMOND, Va. - Competing in the final match of the regular season, the Boston University women's tennis team fell at No. 42 VCU, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon. Sweeping through doubles and singles, the CAA conference leader Rams improved to 17-4, while the Terriers dropped to 6-13.
Senior Monika Mical won her first set at No. 3 singles but Olga Terteac rallied from behind to win the second and the super tiebreaker for a 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory. Sophomore Amelia Martinez came close to capturing a set, but Marketa Placha broke her serve to pull out a 6-2, 7-5 win in the No. 5 slot.
The Terriers suffered a tough break when senior Petra Santini had to drop out of her match early in the first set due to injury.
Playing most of the spring season without two-time America East Player of the Year Stefanie Nunic, BU will next look to defend its league title and earn its 14th straight NCAA bid at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., on April 27-29.
