Terriers Celebrate Senior Day with Sweep over UConn

BOSTON - After recognizing seniors Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis and Kendal Drake, the Boston University women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Connecticut on Wednesday afternoon at the BU Track and Tennis Center. With their fourth straight win, the Terriers improve to 10-6, while the Huskies fall to 4-9.
BU won all three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-11 and then claimed all six singles points by winning 12 of 13 sets. The sweep marked BU's fourth of the season.
A two-time America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Athanasiadis first teamed with sophomore Johanna Hyoty for an 8-3 win at the No. 1 doubles slot. She then defeated UConn's Lucy Nutting, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4 singles, while Hyoty defeated Srna Stosljevic, 6-1, 6-3, at the top spot.
Sophomore Lauren Davis and freshman Barbara Rodriguez also had perfect days, first winning the No. 2 doubles match, 8-4. Davis lost the first set in No. 2 singles but then blanked her opponent in the final two sets for the come-from-behind victory (3-6, 6-0, 6-0). Rodriguez dropped the fewest games with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
Junior Sami Lieb (#4) and freshman Iris Lin (#6) both won their singles matches in straight sets after sophomores Kim McCallum and Madison Craft completed the doubles sweep at No. 3, 8-4.
With three weeks left before the Patriot League tournament, the Terriers will next visit UMass on Saturday, April 5 at 12:30 p.m.
