CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After posting a combined 14-1 record in singles and doubles, Boston University sophomore Johanna Hyoty has been named the Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Month, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
The native of Tampere, Finland sparked the Terriers' win over defending CAA champion William & Mary by clinching the doubles point in a tiebreaker and then rallying for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Leeza Nemchinov at No. 2 singles.
Hyoty was leading Virginia Commonwealth's 115th-ranked Yukako Noi in the third and deciding set when the Rams incorrectly halted the match with the team score decided. Other highlights include straight set singles victories over the top players from Middle Tennessee State, Drake, Binghamton and Connecticut.
Teaming with senior Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis, she claimed wins over the top doubles teams from FIU, Drake, Binghamon and Connecticut.
Going 6-2 in the month of March, the preseason Patriot League favorite Terriers (10-6) will next visit UMass on Saturday (April 5) at 12:30 p.m.
