LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After earning Patriot League All-Conference and All-Tournament Team honors, senior Jayme Mask of the Patriot League champion Boston University softball team has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-Northeast Region First Team, as announced by the organization on Thursday.
Mask earned her third straight NFCA All-Region and second First Team honor while ranking third in the Patriot League in batting average at .400. Named to the All-Region Second Team as a sophomore and First Team as a junior, she currently owns 34 stolen bases this year, third most in conference history . One of her in-season highlights included her breaking a 22-year-old league record with five stolen bases against Cleveland State.
A native of Grafton, Mass., the outfielder drove in the go-ahead run against Bucknell in the PL title game for her 72nd hit of the season, which is seventh most in conference history.
Mask ranks second all-time at BU in hits and runs scored while owning the record for stolen bases. Adding to her awards haul, she was recently named the BU Athletic Woman of the Year for her accomplishments on the field, in the classroom and in the community.
The All-Region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to one of three 2014 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
Mask and the Terriers (35-19) will open the program's seventh NCAA appearance at No. 11 national seed Arizona on Friday (May 16) at 11 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
