HANOVER, N.H. - Facing its first ranked team of the season, the defending Patriot League champion Boston University women's tennis team fell at No. 62 Dartmouth, 7-0, on Friday evening.
With the win, the Big Green remain perfect at 4-0, while the Terriers drop to 1-1.
Dartmouth improved upon last year's 4-3 victory at BU by sweeping through doubles and capturing all 12 singles sets.
The 34th-nationally ranked doubles team of Taylor Ng and Kristina Mathis opened the competition with a 6-2 victory over juniors Lauren Davis and Madison Craft. In the No. 2 and 3 slots, the Terriers came up just short to the Big Green by identical scores of 6-4.
During singles action, freshman Iryna Kostirko won the most games with nine total in a 7-5, 6-4 loss at No. 3 to Mathis. Junior Johanna Hyoty also came close to winning a set but was broken at the end in a 6-1, 7-5 defeat to 92nd-ranked Ng.
Senior Sophie Wyman suffered a similar fate to Hyoty in the No. 6 match with a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Suzy Tan. Dartmouth also won in straight sets against Davis at No. 2, Craft at No. 4 and sophomore Iris Lin at No. 5.
The Terriers will remain in Hanover, N.H., and face Miami (Ohio) on Saturday (Jan. 31) at 12 p.m.
