BOSTON—Lehigh visits Nickerson Field on Saturday for Boston University women’s soccer’s Senior Day, when the seven graduating Terriers will be honored prior to first kick. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. and will air on the Patriot League Network.
The Terriers (6-5-3, 4-0-1 PL) look to stay undefeated in conference play while the Mountain Hawks (6-5-3, 1-2-2 PL) are in the hunt to raise their position in the Patriot League standings, currently sitting in ninth place.
BU’s seven seniors include starting goalkeeper Alyssa Parisi, Patriot League Preseason Defender of the Year McKenzie Hollenbaugh, outside defenders Lauren MacLellan, Ariana Aston and Rachel Blauner, center midfielder Clare Pleuler and forward Jenna Fisher. Prior to the start of the match, the group will be joined by members of their family on the field to be recognized for their contributions to the BU women’s soccer program.
A WIN WOULD…
• Keep the Terriers undefeated in Patriot League contests with a 5-0-1 record.
• Maintain the Terrier’s position as the conference leaders.
• Extend BU’s conference match win streak on Nickerson to six games.
HOME SWEET NICK
• BU is still defending the nation’s best active home conference unbeaten streak, which now stands at 32 games. The Terriers have not lost a home conference match since 2007.
• The Terriers are an incredible 145-29-17 on Nickerson Field, all-time. Their few losses include six against ranked opponents and four overtime results.
• BU has had four undefeated seasons on its home turf in 2000, 2006, 2009 and 2011.
• Even more impressive is Boston University’s conference record on Nickerson Field, which stands at 69-8-5 going into Saturday. The Terriers have never lost more than two conference games at home in a season, which happened just once in 1996, their first year in the America East.
TERRIER TIDBITS
• Freshman McKenna Doyle leads the team with 11 points this season (4g, 3a). She tallied two assists last weekend against Lafayette, the most helpers a PL rookie has had in a game this season. Doyle is currently ranked eighth overall in the PL with .79 points per game.
• Alyssa Parisi has been outstanding in net this season and currently leads the league in goals against average, allowing just .91 per contest this season. She has allowed just two goals so far in league play and has four shutout wins so far this season.
• The Terriers have been included in Patriot League weekly awards five times this season including a Defender of the Week nod (Rachel Bloznalis) and a Rookie of the Week selection (Doyle).
• As a team, BU co-leads the conference in goals allowed, letting opponents score just 1.14 goals per game, which is tied with Saturday’s opponent, Lehigh.
SCOUTING LEHIGH
• Despite sitting at opposite ends of the Patriot League standings, Lehigh and BU have similar season stat lines. Both teams have allowed 1.14 goals per game this season and each has taken 11.79 shots per game. BU and the Mountain Hawks are also nearly identical in points per game, with the Terriers totaling 4.43 and Lehigh averaging 4.79.
• Sabrina Mertz is the Mountain Hawks’ leading offensive player, totaling seven goals so far this season, which ranks third in among conference athletes. She also co-leads the league in game-winning goals with three so far this season.
• Ani Nahapetian is Lehigh’s starting keeper and has an impressive 1.10 goals against average so far this year. She also ranks second in the conference in save percentage, stopping .838 percent of her shots faced. She leads the conference with an average of 5.93 saves per games, which indicates Lehigh’s lack of strength in its back line.
• Lehigh set two PL season-highs against Mount St. Mary’s, scoring seven goals and totaling 22 points. The Mountain Hawks also made the second-most saves of any team this season, stopping 13 shots against Monmouth.
SERIES HISTORY
• The Terriers have never lost to Lehigh in their short history with the Mountain Hawks.
• BU defeated Lehigh, 3-0, in their first-ever meeting in 2013 but settled for a 1-1 tie against the Mountain Hawks last season.
NEXT TIME OUT
• BU plays its final regular season home game on Wednesday night against Holy Cross at 7 p.m. on Nickerson Field.
• The game will be aired live on the American Sports Network. Check back on GoTerriers.com for channel listings in the coming days.
• BU and Holy Cross will be battling for points towards the Turnpike Trophy, a year-long contest between the Terriers and the Crusaders.
