BOSTON--The Boston University women's soccer team is set for its final regular-season matchup on Nickerson Field as the Terriers host Holy Cross on Wednesday night to compete for points towards the Turnpike Trophy.
First kick is set for 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the American Sports Network, which is locally shown on NESNplus, and can also be viewed online on the Patriot League Network.
This is the second game in the inaugural Turnpike Trophy competition, a rivalry series between Holy Cross and Boston University. The Terriers are ahead with a win in field hockey earlier this month. Points are awarded for head-to-head victories, both in the regular season and the postseason, or a higher finish at conference championships that are determined by team standings.
A WIN WOULD...
• Keep the Terriers undefeated in Patriot League contests with a 6-0-1 record.
• Extend BU's conference match win streak on Nickerson to seven games.
HOME SWEET NICK
• BU is still defending the nation's best active home conference unbeaten streak, which now stands at 33 games. The Terriers have not lost a home conference match since 2007.
• The Terriers are an incredible 146-29-17 on Nickerson Field, all-time. Their few losses include six against ranked opponents and four overtime results.
• BU has had four undefeated seasons on its home turf in 2000, 2006, 2009 and 2011.
• Even more impressive is Boston University's conference record on Nickerson Field, which stands at 70-8-5 going into Wednesday. The Terriers have never lost more than two conference games at home in a season, which happened just once in 1996, their first year in the America East.
TERRIER TIDBITS
• With the win against Lehigh on Saturday, BU is the only team to have already clinched a spot in the PL Tournament.
• The Terriers have allowed just two goals throughout conference play and have shut out four Patriot League opponents. In total, the Terriers have allowed just five goals on Nickerson Field all season, including just one against a conference foe.
• Jenna Fisher had an incredible four-point game, her career-best single-game performance, to become the team's points leader with 12 this season (4g, 4a). She also has the most assists and is tied for the most goals among the Terriers. The senior currently ranks fifth in the PL with 0.27 apg and eighth with 0.8 ppg.
• As a team, the Terriers have dominated the Patriot League, leading the conference in points per game (8.5), goals per game (3.0), assists per game (2.5), goals against average (0.32) and shutouts (4) in league-only stats. Their stingy defense is best exemplified by the fact that the Terriers have the fewest saves per game in the conference (2.5) and they are playing the cleanest soccer among conference opponents with zero yellow cards throughout league play.
• Bolstered by two-straight shutouts, Alyssa Parisi still leads the conference in goals against average, letting in a mere 0.85 goals per game. She is currently on a nine-game unbeaten streak dating back to Sept. 11 at CCSU and has gone 7-0-2 and a perfect 5-0-0 at Nickerson Field in that span.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
• Holy Cross enters the game coming off of a 1-0 loss against Lafayette. They are currently tied for seventh place in the conference (one game out of PL Tournament qualification) with American and Lehigh with five points each.
• Sophomore Aly Spencer leads the Crusaders with four goals and 10 points this season. She is tied for eighth place (along with BU's Fisher) in the conference in goals while her point total is tied for ninth. Spencer has totaled 15 goals and 35 points in her career, which both stand at 10th in the Holy Cross all-time record book.
• Senior Annie Galvin and Sophomore Christina Callahan rank second on the team with three goals this season and junior Courtney Cohen is tied for second in the PL with four assists this year.
• Junior Brooke Hollie has seen the majority of minutes in net for the Crusaders this season and has a 1.20 GAA and .797 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
• The Terriers lead the all-time series with Holy Cross, 5-1-0.
• Currently on a five-game win streak against the Crusaders, BU's only loss to the Massachusetts rival was in their first season as a varsity program.
• Last season, the Terriers took home a 3-0 win at Holy Cross.
NEXT TIME OUT
• The Terriers are on the road for the remainder of the season with their first stop at Army West Point on Saturday, Oct. 24.
• First kick is set for 3 p.m. and will be aired on the Patriot League Network.
