BOSTON--For the first time in program history, the Boston University women's soccer team earned a No. 1 seed and hosting rights in the Patriot League Tournament, which will take place on Nickerson Field on Friday, Nov. 6 and Sunday, Nov. 8.
The Terriers (10-5-3, 8-0-1 PL) face No. 4 Loyola Maryland first in the semifinal game at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon before No. 2 Bucknell squares off with No. 3 Navy at 7 p.m. for a spot in Sunday's Championship game.
This year was a season of firsts for BU, as they also finished the conference slate with an undefeated record for the first time since joining the Patriot League. Additionally, it was the first time BU tallied more than one PL major award and the first time a Terrier has been named a Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year, Defender of the Year or Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Alyssa Parisi earned both the distinction of league Goalkeeper of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the year as she compiled the best season of her career. Boasting a 0.23 goals against average in conference action, the fifth-year senior allowed just two total goals during the Patriot League schedule and shut out seven of nine conference opponents. Her overall GAA of 0.703 ranks 43rd out of 150 ranked Division I goalkeepers.
Currently, both Parisi and the Terriers are on a streak of 476 minutes without allowing an opponent goal, bolstered by five straight shutouts to end the season. Parisi is also on an 11-game unbeaten streak, dating back to Sept. 11 at Central Connecticut State.
Patriot League Preseason Defender of the Year McKenzie Hollenbaugh lived up to expectations and earned the major award alongside Parisi. Hollenbaugh was the backbone of a defense that allowed a conference-low 29 total attempts on net throughout the nine-game league schedule.
Rounding out the major award winners is McKenna Doyle, who earned Rookie of the Year honors following an outstanding freshman regular season. Doyle led the conference in goals scored (4) throughout the PL schedule and trailed only the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, Loyola's Rosy Hayes, in points per game, averaging 1.11 in league action. In total, Doyle has a team-leading six goals and 15 points this season.
