QUEENSBURY, N.Y. - Led by four-goal games by Ally Adams and Mallory Collins, the Boston University women's lacrosse team opened the season with a 13-9 victory over Siena on Friday evening at the Adirondack Sports Complex.
Adams, whose four goals was a career-high, notched three in the first half while Collins tossed three in during the second period. Jill Horka had three points on the day, scoring two goals and assisting on one.
Six different Terriers scored against the Saints and freshman Avery Donahoe tallied her first collegiate points, assisting on two goals.
Caroline Meegan tallied six saves against the Saints and was in net all 60 minutes. Horka led the Terriers in ground balls (3), caused turnovers (2) and draw controls (9).
Adams got things started off early, netting the first goal of the game five minutes into the contest. Siena had an answer, however, scoring the next two to take its first lead of the game, 2-1, with 17 minutes left in the first half.
Goals by Adams and Collins restored the BU lead but Siena would tie the game, 3-3, one more time before the half. Adams netted a hat trick to put the Terriers back on top and Horka scored her first of the season to give BU a two-goal advantage at halftime.
BU came out strong to start the second half and Horka and Collins scored in the first three minutes to stretch BU's lead to four goals, its largest of the day. Siena posed a comeback, however, scoring four of the next five goals to make it a one-point game, 8-7.
The Saints would never get back the lead, though, as BU would outscore Siena 5-2 over the final 20 minutes to secure a 13-9 victory.
The Terriers are back in action next Friday when they head south to Vanderbilt for a 3 p.m. matchup with the Commodores.
