BU Falls To #17 Loyola, 9-6
April 11, 2015 | Women's Lacrosse
BALTIMORE - Mallory Collins' four goals wasn't enough for the Boston University women's lacrosse team to overcome No. 17 Loyola Md. and the Terriers settled for a 9-6 loss on Saturday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Greyhounds (11-4, 7-0 PL) stay perfect in Patriot League contests while the Terriers fall to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Collins scored four goals for the fifth time this season and is now just two shy of her 100th career goal.
After scoring her first collegiate goal on Wednesday, Caroline English netted another tally in the final minutes of Saturday's game. In total, three Terriers scored goals against the Greyhounds with Jill Horka scoring the first goal of the game.
Caroline Meegan made 11 saves against Loyola including seven during the second half but the BU offense couldn't get going in time to aid her performance.
The Terriers opened scoring with a Horka strike in the first four minutes of the contest. Loyola answered with two goals but Collins answered with two of her own midway through the first half to return the lead to BU, 3-2.
The lead would be their last however, as the Greyhounds scored the next four straight goals to take a commanding 6-3 lead over the Terriers. Despite cutting the lead to two goals by halftime, BU would not overcome the four-goal run.
Loyola made another run to open the second stanza, scoring three unanswered goals over the first 15 minutes of the half to take a 9-4 lead. The Terriers scored two goals in the final three minutes of the game but it would be too little too late and the Greyhounds came away with the victory.
The Terriers finish their non-conference schedule when they travel to New Hampshire on Wednesday. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
