BOSTON - Backed by three goals from the squad's co-captains and junior Cammy Jensen's first collegiate shutout, the No. 19 Boston University field hockey team earned a 3-0 victory over Providence on Sunday afternoon at New Balance Field.

Senior Sofi Laurito scored twice and classmate Rachel Coll added her first goal of the season. Junior Bea Baumberger Altirriba assisted on all three goals to help the Terriers improve to 4-2 on the season.

All three tallies came via penalty corners, as the Terriers earned eight of them and allowed seven on the other end. 

Laurito opened the scoring at the 16:46 mark with a perfect redirect from above the right post. Baumberger Altirriba took a direct insert from Coll and drilled the ball right at Laurito's stick to help the Terriers take a 1-0 lead.

BU was able to double its advantage before halftime. Another corner play was set up for Baumberger Altirriba, this time off to the right side. Her attempt got through traffic and found Coll all alone at the left post for a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute.

Providence threatened to score in the closing seconds of regulation, setting up a 1-on-1 chance with only Jensen to beat, but could not get a shot off before time ran out.

Baumberger Altirriba and Laurito teamed up one more time for the final goal of the game off a corner in the 47th minute. Laurito gained position in middle of the circle and was right where she needed to be to tip the ball past Providence netminder Deidra Clymer for her third goal of the season.

Jensen saved both of Providence's shots on goal to record her first shutout as a Terriers. Overall, BU held an 18-12 shot advantage.

The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18, when they host Lafayette on the opening day of Patriot League play. Game time is set for noon.
