WORCESTER, Mass. - Highlighted by senior Lauren Hynes' first-ever no-hitter, the Boston University softball team earned a doubleheader sweep at Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers used a season-tying 16 hits to claim a 11-4 game-one victory and then watched Hynes tally eight strikeouts in a 1-0 game-two win.

With the sweep, the Terriers improve to 22-21 and 8-5 in the Patriot League while also capturing another point for BU in the all-sports Turnpike Trophy sports competition featuring the two schools.

In game one, sophomore Jilee Schanda went a perfect 4-of-4 at the plate, finishing one hit shy of tying the school record, and combined with junior Brittany Younan for five runs and four RBIs. The two Terriers both had a single in the first and scored on sophomore Emma Wong's two-out, two-RBI single to grab the lead for good.

Younan and Schanda followed with an RBI apiece in the second inning to help the Terriers extend the lead to 5-0. BU added two more in the fifth and another in the sixth on junior Rachel Levine's first-career RBI to grab a commanding 8-0 advantage.

Held off the scoreboard through four innings by senior Melanie Russell (9-8), the Crusaders managed three runs off five hits against junior Makinna Akers. After HC avoided the run-rule effect, Russell renentered the game in the sixth and gave up a three-run homer to Taylor Moss with two of the runs being charged to Akers.

After cutting the deficit in half, HC would not get any closer, as BU added three more runs off five hits in the seventh. Morrow and Younan led off with back-to-back doubles. Schanda had an opportunity to tie the school record in hits but came away with an RBI sacrifice fly to help BU finish with double-digit runs for the first time since March 20.

Similar to the first contest, the Terriers quickly jumped out ahead in game two. Junior Moriah Connolly hit a bunt single and used her speed to eventually score on back-to-back bunts by Schanda and junior Gabi Martinez.

Gennifer Durham (6-14) recorded seven strikeouts in the pitchers' duel and limited BU to a combined five hits with Connolly and Morrow tallying two apiece. The Terriers were in position however to add more runs in the sixth when Connolly hit a lead-off single and Schanda was hit by a pitch.

They then did a double steal to put two runners in scoring position. The Crusaders' defense kept the deficit at one by drawing two pop ups and throwing Connolly out at home on a bunt attempt by Wong.

The missed opportunity did not matter, as Younan collected two groundouts at short and caught a liner to end the sixth. Hynes then tallied three straight strikeouts, including one swinging by HC's Taylor Moss to end the game.

BU will next conclude the series on Sunday at 11 a.m.
