PL recap: Terriers run-rule Army, 9-0, in Patriot League final
BOSTON - Making its fifth NCAA tournament appearance in eight years, the 2016 Patriot League champion Boston University softball team has earned a trip to the Louisiana-Lafayette regional at Lamson Park that will take place on Friday May 20 - Sunday, May 22.
Guided by first-year head coach Ashley Waters, the Terriers (28-22) will open against the No. 14 national seed and 13-time Sun Belt champion Ragin' Cajuns (43-7) with Friday's ESPNU broadcast slated for 7 p.m. ET. Highlighted by a Women's College World Series (WCWS) berth in 2014, Louisiana-Lafayette is making its 18th straight NCAA appearance and will be hosting a regional for the fourth time in the last five years. Both recipients of an at-large bid, the Big 12's Texas (37-14) and SEC's Texas A&M (37-18) will first face off at 4:30 p.m.
The winner of the regional will play the winner of the Oklahoma Regional, which features the No. 3 national seed Sooners (47-4), Ole Miss (39-20), Tulsa (35-19) and Wichita State (35-19), in the super regional round for a trip to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
One out away from becoming a three-time regional finalist in 2014, BU is 7-14 in NCAA action, having won at least one game in five of the previous seven appearances. The Terriers are 0-3 all-time against ULL, last dropping a 5-1 decision in 2012 at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla. They previously were swept in a doubleheader in Lafayette by identical scores of 8-0 in 2003.
Owning a 6-0 advantage in the all-time series, Texas A&M defeated the Terriers, 9-1, in six innings back on March 4 at the San Diego Classic. BU has never once faced the Longhorns.
