No. 23 Terriers Fall Short in Overtime to No. 10 Eagles, 3-2
October 15, 2017 | Field Hockey
BOSTON – Freshman Kathryn Scheerer scored her first collegiate goal to send the game into overtime but No. 10 Boston College scored just over three minutes into the extra session to hand the No. 23 Boston University field hockey team a 3-2 loss on Sunday afternoon at New Balance Field.
The Terriers had their three-game win streak snapped and now stand at 9-6 on the season while the Eagles improve to 11-5, including an 11-0 non-conference mark.
How it Happened
- The Eagles had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 erased before Fusine Govaert scored from five yards out just 3:03 into overtime off a pass from the right side by Ymke Rose Gote.
- BC opened the scoring in the fourth minute off a corner as Lucy Lytle tipped a deflected shot towards Alesandra Miller, who scored at the left post.
- The Terriers got an equalizer at the 19:10 mark when junior Kara Enoch deflected an elevated ball towards Allie Renzi, who dribbled across the goalmouth and created a good look at the cage before firing a shot that went off the BC netminder and in for her third goal of the year.
- BU kept the momentum after tying the game and had chances for a go-ahead goal only to see BC capitalize with 1:50 left in the opening half.
- Attacking from the right side, Lucy Buttinger found Lytle at the far post for a tip-in to allow the Eagles to regain the lead at 3-2.
- The Terriers had six corners on the day with all of them coming in the second half.
- Their fifth corner was set up for sophomore Kiley Gallagher at the top-left of the circle and her shot attempt was blocked.
- Scheerer corralled the rebound on the left side and quickly created some space before elevating the ball into the net at the 63:11 mark.
- BU earned one more corner late in regulation but was unable to take advantage of it.
