October 23, 2017 | Field Hockey
The No. 21 Boston University field hockey team will close out its non-conference schedule on Tuesday (Oct. 24) when it makes the short trip to take on No. 16 Harvard. Game time at Berylson Field is set for 6 p.m.
Harvard has designated Tuesday's game as a fundraiser for the Travis Roy Foundation.
The Crimson (10-4) is coming off a 3-0 loss to No. 14 Princeton on Saturday in a game that was for first place in the Ivy League standings. Harvard has dropped two of three contests since putting together a seven-game win streak from Sept 15 to Oct. 6.
The Terriers (10-6) reached the 10-win mark for the 14th straight season with a 6-0 road win at Lehigh on Saturday. That result secured a third straight Patriot League regular-season title for BU, which will host the conference tournament as the top seed on Nov. 3 & 5. BU has won four of its past five contests and has won four straight road contests.
This will be the 35th meeting between the two teams with the Terriers holding a 20-13-1 advantage. BU had a seven-game win streak in the series snapped last season in a 1-0 setback to the Crimson.
Harvard's offense is paced by three players with at least 20 points this season. Junior Kathleen Young leads the squad in points (23) and goals (10) while freshman Mimi Tarrant (8g, 6a) and sophomore Bente van Vlijmen (9g, 2a) have added 22 and 20 points, respectively. Three other players have scored at least six goals and senior Ellie Cookson has a team-best eight assists.
Senior Olivia Startup and junior Libby Manela have shared time in the Crimson goal with seven starts apiece and Manela holds the edge in both goals-against average (1.15 - 1.54) and save percentage (.727 - .474).
The Terriers' offense has been on fire as of late, scoring 22 goals over its past four contests. Freshman Ailsa Connolly has 20 points on 10 goals to lead the way while senior Grace Boston has set a new career high with 16 points on seven goals, including four game-winners, and a pair of assists. Senior Kali Shumock (3g, 8a) and junior Kara Enoch (4g, 6a), the reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, have contributed 14 points apiece.
Junior Kathleen Keegan and freshman Millie Baker have each started eight contests in goal for the Terriers and have combined for a 1.81 goals-against average and a .638 save percentage.
