Women's Lacrosse Falls Late at Lehigh, 13-12

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Leading 10-7 with just over 20 minutes left in regulation, Lehigh reeled off a 6-0 run and fended off a late comeback attempt by the Boston University women's lacrosse team to sink the Terriers, 13-12, Saturday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

TURNING POINT
- Kelly Matthews gave BU its largest lead of the game at 10-7 with 20:36 left in the game, but Lehigh responded with a 6-0 run to flip the score in its favor, 13-10, with 8:11 remaining.
- Mickenzie Larivee roped back-to-back goals in under a minute, cutting the deficit to 13-12 with 6:14 left on the clock.
- The Terriers would have two possessions within the final minute, but could not extend the game as it fell to an even 2-2 in Patriot League play.
- Lehigh reached the scoreboard first two minutes in, though the advantage was not for long as Elisabeth Jayne delivered the equalizer off a rebound from a free position shot and Kelly Matthews gave BU the lead minutes later off a feed from Kailey Conry in transition.
- The Mountain Hawks had their turn to tie the game, converting on a free position shot with 20 minutes left in the half and furthered its command to 4-2 midway through the opening half.
- Caroline English beat the keeper on a free position shot to pull the Terriers within one with 10 minutes left before the break, though Lehigh responded on the following possession to reclaim its two-goal lead.
- From there, Hardison ignited a 4-0 run as she scored following a draw control and Jayne bolted through the lane to knot the score at 5-5 with 8:22 left before the half.
- Hardison fed Larivee for back-to-back goals, pushing the Terriers to hold control of the scoreboard at 7-5 with 3:35 left on the clock.
- Lehigh would have the final goal of the half with 26 seconds left to trail by one.
- Avery Donahoe snapped the opening goal of the second half before Jayne notched her fourth hat trick of the year, putting the Terriers in control at 9-7 with 25 minutes to go.
- Matthews and Conry worked a give-and-go to give BU a three-goal advantage, its largest lead of the game, but the Mountain Hawks came alive with six goals in a 10-minute span to take a 13-10 lead with 8:11 to go.
- Larivee notched back-to-back goals for the second time of the game, putting BU within one with 6:14 remaining.
- The comeback would fall short as the Terriers turned the ball over on their final two possessions in the final minute.
- Saturday's contest marked the third straight matchup between BU and Lehigh that was decided by one goal.
- Conry tallied four assists, marking the seventh straight game she's had at least a trio of helpers.
- Hardison recorded three assists for the second straight game and led the team with three ground balls.
- BU scored its final four goals of the first half in a six-minute stretch. Following Matthews goal to tie it at 2-2, the Terriers were held scoreless for nearly 17 minutes.
- Caroline Meegan posted double-digit saves for the sixth time this season with 11 stops in between the pipes.
- Matthews and Charlotte Castronovo caused the lone turnovers for the Terriers.
- BU will return to Nickerson Field for a two-game homestand, starting with Lafayette on Saturday, April 8.
