BOSTON – After being named Patriot League Player of the Year and helping lead the Boston University softball team to the Patriot League tournament final, junior Jilee Schanda received All-Northeast Region Second Team accolades, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Thursday morning.
A native of Fresno, California, Schanda currently sits fifth overall in the PL with a .343 batting average while leading the way in conference action hitting a stellar .436. The junior outfielder ranks second in hits (57), fifth in slugging percentage (.500) and tied-for-third in runs scored (33). Besides making numerous impressive plays in center, she owns four homers this season after tallying one as a rookie and two weeks ago became the first Terrier since 1999 to hit two triples in one contest.
In total, Schanda had 14 multiple-hit games, including four-hit performances against Lafayette and later Lehigh during the Patriot League tournament. Spending most of the season in the No. 2 slot in the batting lineup, she also earned six multi-RBI performances and posted a season-high 13-game streak of successfully reaching base.
The All-Region award marks the first for Schanda and the first for a Terrier outfielder since teammate Emma Wong was placed on the third team in 2015.
