ORONO, Maine – Third-year Boston University softball head coach Ashley Waters returned to her alma mater on Friday evening to be inducted into the University of Maine Sports Hall of Fame.
As an infielder for Maine (2005-09), Waters accumulated numerous academic and athletic awards. The two-time team captain received America East All-Conference First Team accolades in her junior and senior seasons while earning Player of the Year honors in 2008 behind a .352 batting average, 10 homers and 30 RBIs. She was also a two-time NFCA All-Region honoree.
In 206 games, Waters batted .323 with 41 doubles, 11 triples and 18 home runs. She also drove in 100 runs, scored 134 runs, batted .323 and had a .498 slugging percentage.
Success in the classroom led to her being named a four-time NFCA Academic All-American and four-time America East Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll member. She was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District squad twice, was a three-time member of the America East All-Academic team and was dubbed America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2008. She was also involved with Phi Beta Kappa and the Golden Key National Honor Society.
Waters took over the BU program in the summer of 2015 and has led the Terriers to back-to-back Patriot League championship round appearances. Led by PL Pitcher of the Year Melanie Russell, the Terriers captured the 2016 conference title and then came up just one run short in 2017, as Jilee Schanda earned PL Player of the Year accolades.
BU will open the fall schedule at Maine on Saturday (Sept. 16) with the doubleheader slated for a 1 p.m. start.
