Lehigh Staves Off Terriers, 15-8

BOSTON – Opening Patriot League play against Lehigh, the Boston University women's lacrosse team dug itself an early hole that proved too much to overcome as it dropped a 15-8 decision to the Mountain Hawks Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
Lehigh dominated the first half, outscoring the Terriers 11-1 and led by as many as 12. BU showed signs of life in the second half as it tabbed seven of the final nine scores, freshmen Nicole Foringer and Makenzie Irvine each netted their first career goals.

- Lehigh struck first nearly three minutes into play and followed with another score to stake a two-goal lead five minutes in.
- The Mountain Hawks continued to scorch BU's defense, netting three straight goals in a two-minute span to hold a five-goal advantage with 20 minutes to go in the half.
- Foringer put the Terriers on the board with her first career goal, making it an 8-1 game with 5:49 left in the half.
- Lehigh closed out the half with another trio of scores to take a commanding 11-1 lead into the break.
- Working from the back line, Kailey Conry weaved past the defense before lofting a shot into the back of the net to reduce the deficit to 13-2 with 23 minutes left in regulation.
- Irvine followed with her first career score, weaving past the defense from just outside the crease to put the game within 10 at the 18-minute mark.
- BU's attack continued to click as Irvine, Molly Kern and Caroline English sparked a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to single digits, 13-6.
- Conry and Foringer kept the pressure on with back-to-back scores in the final minutes, but the early damage proved too tough to overcome.
- Conry extended her point streak to 21 games and is the only Terrier who has scored in all six games this season.
- Tonianne Magnelli posted a game-high three caused turnovers and a team-best four draw controls.
- Lehigh scored on all of its first six shots on goal.
- BU dropped its Patriot League opener for the first time since joining the league.
- The Mountain Hawks won their third straight matchup with the Terriers evened the all-time series to 4-4.
- The Terriers will return to the field on Saturday, March 24 at Lafayette for a 4 p.m. tilt.
