Terriers Storm Past Lafayette, 16-8

EASTON, Pa. – Behind a six-goal output from Avery Donahoe and 12 saves in net from Christine Laible, the Boston University women's lacrosse team used a balanced all-around effort to pick up its first Patriot League win, topping Lafayette 16-8 Saturday afternoon at Fisher Stadium.

- Kaitlin Belval found Avery Donahoe darting from behind the cage to net the put the Terriers on the board 44 seconds in.
- Ava Barry pounded in the following goal before Sarah Andersen took it the distance in transition to push the lead to 3-0.
- Kelly Mathews stroke a laser into the upper 90, while Donahoe tabbed back-to-back goals to reach a first-half hat trick just 13 minutes into the contest.
- Following a pair of scores by the Leopards, Maria Guerra roped another dart in transition for her first goal of the season, putting the Terriers ahead 7-2.
- Barry struck with her second goal of the game at the five-minute mark and Caroline English followed with a free position strike less than a minute later.
- Donahoe closed out the half with another set of back-to-back scores to cap five-goal first-half effort.
- Christine Laible kept the Leopards high-powered attack at bay, stopping seven shots on frame as the Terriers cruised to an 11-2 advantage heading into the break.
- Belval scored just over two minutes into the second half and Lexi Lewis wasted no time in keeping the pressure on Lafayette's defense, as she reeled in the ensuing draw and ripped the back of the net.
- Donahoe broke up a 5-0 Leopard run with her sixth goal of the game, matching a career-high, with just over 11 minutes left.
- Freshmen Nicole Foringer and Makenzie Irving closed out the game as BU cruised to its first Patriot League victory.
- Donahoe tallied her fourth hat trick of the season and has netted at least five goals twice in the last three games.
- BU had three defenders score for the first time this season.
- Donahoe, Tonianne Magnelli and Emily Vervlied each caused a pair of turnovers.
- Belval was the top assist provider of the game with three, while six other Terriers lent a helper.
- The Terriers reeled in a season-high 16 draw controls, led by six from Lewis.
- BU held Lafayette to a season-low eight goals and held the Leopards to single digits for the first time this season.
- The Terriers improved to 6-0 all-time against Lafayette and 3-0 at Fisher Stadium.
- The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday, March 28 at Colgate.
