May 30, 2018 | Women's Tennis
BOSTON – Following the graduation of three-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree Iryna Kostirko, the Boston University women's tennis team will welcome five-star recruit Shelly Yaloz to the fall roster as the lone representative in the Class of 2022.
A first-generation American with parents from Russia and Israel, the Queens, New York, native currently sits at No. 33 in TennisRecruiting.net's rankings. Yaloz graduated from Laurel Springs H.S. while participating in the NY Junior Tennis and Learning program and is a top-150 ranked ITF junior who has competed at high-level tournaments across the world, including Central and South America. She earlier this month reached the round of 32 in singles and round of 16 in doubles at the 40th Torneo "Citta Di Santa Croce" Mauro Sabatini in Italy after reaching the semifinals at the Inka Bowl in Peru last fall.
Yaloz also currently ranks in the top 1000 in the USTA standings after claiming a combined five gold, silver and bronze balls at the USTA National Championships. Last summer, she reached the finals in doubles at the USTA Girls 16 National Championships after reaching the round of 16 in singles at the USTA Girls 16 National Clay Court Championships. She previously proved her fitness by beating out hundreds in an intense competition for a spot as a ball person for the 2015 U.S. Open.
The addition of Yaloz marks the fourth five-star recruit in the last two years for head coach Lesley Sheehan. Rising sophomores Emily Kim, Lily Burchell and Katya Martens combined for 33 singles during the dual season. Rising senior and 2017 Patriot League Player of the Year Remi Ramos was also a top-60 TennisRecruiting.net recruit for Sheehan and is the team's top returner with 11 singles victories this past spring at the No. 2 slot.
