No. 9 Loyola Bests Terriers, 15-6, in Patriot League Semifinals

BALTIMORE, Md. – Taking on No. 9 Loyola in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals for the second straight year, the Boston University women's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close as it dropped a 15-6 decision to the Greyhounds Friday afternoon at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
With the game tied at 2-2, top-seeded Loyola took advantage of four BU yellow cards and used an 8-0 run to take a commanding 12-3 lead at the half. The Terriers received two goals apiece form Ryann Gaffney, Lexi Lewis and English, but the Terriers' postseason run came to a close in the semifinals for the fourth straight year.
How It Happened

How It Happened
- Gaffney delivered the opening goal by five-holing Loyola's keeper on a free position shot two minutes in.
- Loyola responded just over a minute later before taking advantage of a woman-up situation to claim a one-goal advantage.
- Lexi Lewis provided an answer of her own, dodging her way from the top of the crease to make it a 2-2 game with 22:45 left in the frame.
- The Greyhounds capitalized on two BU yellow cards midway through the half en route to reeling off an 8-0 run over a 10-minute span.
- English put the Terriers back on the board, going upper-90 with 4:42 remaining until the break to make it a 10-3 game, though Loyola took a 12-3 command at the intermission.
- Gaffney, Lewis and English each tacked on another goal in the second half, but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Greyhounds advanced to the championship game.
- BU was tabbed for five yellow cards in the first half and six overall.
- Maria Guerra and Kailey Conry were both sidelined in the second half as each was handed for their second yellow card.
- Conry saw her 32-game point streak end, finishing with 40 goals and 97 games during the run.
- Maddie Curley led the team with four ground balls, while Mackenzie Howe won a game-high six draw controls.
- Christine Laible recorded eight saves and three ground balls.
- BU's senior class of Sarah Andersen, Maddie Curley, Avery Donahoe, Caroline English, Maria Guerra and Christine Laible has posted a record of 40-34 throughout their four seasons in Boston.
- The class of 2018 also went 22-13 in Patriot League games and reached the Patriot League Tournament semifinals in each of the past four seasons.
