Ann Arbor, Mich. – Taking the field at the UM Soccer Complex for its 2018 opener, the Boston University women's soccer team could not overcome a high-powered Wolverine attack, falling 3-1 Thursday night.

Michigan netted the first three goals, including two in the first half within a three-minute span, before adding another score in the 83rd minute. Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Anna Heilferty broke the shutout in the 87th minute, weaving through the defense and finished off a one-on-one chance.

How It Happened

With the shots even at 4-4 midway through the half, the Wolverines took ownership of the offensive third, firing off the final seven shots of the half.
Amanda Fay punched out her second save in the 27th minute, though Michigan's Nikki Hernandez slipped in the rebound to break the stalemate.
Abby Kastroll followed three minutes later, sending in a rebound off a corner kick to extend the Wolverine's advantage to two.
Chelsea Churchill nearly made it a one-goal game in the 73rd minute, though Michigan's keeper made the initial save and Rachel Kingston's follow missed wide.
BU pressed with three shots during the remaining 10 minutes, Heilferty's goal was the lone shot to land on frame.

Game Notes

The Terriers held an 8-4 edge in shots in the second half.
Fay made each of her four saves in the first half and faced 15 shots on the night.
Lily Perryman was the lone Terrier freshman in the starting lineup.
BU has netted at least one goal in each season opener since 2010, when it fell 1-0 to then-No. 12 South Carolina.
