COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 21 Boston University field hockey was unable to get on the board against a tough Penn State squad on Sunday, dropping a 4-0 contest to the sixth-ranked Nittany Lions at the University of Maryland's Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
The Terriers generated 10 shots and earned five corners but could not solve goalkeeper Jenny Rizzo and the PSU defense.Â
BU saw its three-game win streak come to an end and now stands at 5-3 on the year. Penn State improves to 5-2. Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU recorded the first shot of the game but the Nittany Lions countered with a handful of circle penetrations and got on the board in the 13th minute on a reverse-stick drive by Moira Putsch from the right side.
- It looked like the Terriers would enter halftime with a 1-0 deficit but Penn State added goals 72 seconds apart late in the opening half. Â
- Anna Simon found the lower left corner of the cage from the top of the circle at 31:01.
- With 2:47 left in the first half, Alexis Horst poked in a loose ball at the right post to give the Nittany Lions a 3-0 cushion entering the break.
- The Terriers looked strong coming out of halftime, earning back-to-back corners, but Rizzo came up with a save each time.
- Horst got her second goal of the afternoon off a corner as a deflected ball bounced around the goalmouth before she pounced on it and pushed it in at the 45:59 mark.
- The rookie dribbled from the midfield into the Eagles' circle before passing off to Hall, who moved towards the left side before elevating a reverse-stick shot from a tough angle just past the reach of American goalkeeper Maura Jacobs.
