Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Terriers Storm Past UConn, 3-0

BOSTON – Led by its highest offensive output of the season and behind a crowd of 2,500 fans, the Boston University women's soccer team shut out UConn, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

Kelly Harris set the tempo by scoring just over a minute into the game before Chloee Sagmoe got on the board in the 37th minute and Lauren Adelman polished off the game in the 71st minute to guide BU its first win of the season.

How It Happened
  • Attacking right away, Chelsea Churchill fed McKenna Doyle streaking down the right wing just over a minute into the game.
  • Doyle separated from the Huskies defense before crossing the ball to the center of the six-yard mark, where Harris sent a one-timer past the keeper to give BU the lead just one minute and thirty-two seconds into play.
  • Pietra Sweeney nearly made it a two-goal game in the 25th minute, sending a ball from the left wing that UConn's keeper punched out.
  • Dorrie Varley-Barrett got a one-timer off on the follow through, but it sailed high of the frame.
  • Elle Conlin drove a cross of her own from the left wing in the 37st minute that sailed over the defense and landed at the foot of Chloee Sagmoe.
  • Sagmoe took a touch and created space before driving the ball inside the back left post to further the lead.
  • Anna Heilferty launched a ball from the midfield down the left wing in the 71st minute, where Lauren Adelman chased it down and drove the rest of the field.
  • Facing a one-on-one with the keeper and two oncoming defenders, Adelman sliced a shot inside the back right post to put the game out of reach.
Game Notes
  • Harris' goal was the fastest score since Varley-Barrett scored one minute and thirteen seconds into the game against Holy Cross on Oct. 21, 2015.
  • Sunday set the mark for the second-highest home attendance in program history with 2,500 fans.
  • The attendance record was set on Aug. 30, 2009, when 4,963 fans watched BU shut out UMass, 2-0.
  • BU improved to 3-0 against the Huskies on Nickerson Field.
Up Next
  • The Terriers will remain at Nickerson Field and await Boston College for a Thursday night battle of Comm Ave on Sept. 6.
