No. 24 Terriers Fall Short at No. 5 Princeton, 3-1
September 30, 2018 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. - Despite holding the Princeton attack to just eight shots, the No. 24 Boston University field hockey team dropped a 3-1 contest to the fifth-ranked Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Bedford Field.
Sophomore Ailsa Connolly scored the final goal of the game for the Terriers, who move to 7-4 on the season. Princeton improves to 8-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Princeton scored early in each half with the latter tally giving the home team a 3-0 lead in the 37th minute.
- BU scored at 43:24 when Connolly took a pass from junior Kiley Gallagher and fired in a shot from the left side to the far boards.
- The Terriers did not give up a corner in the second half but the three-goal deficit to too much to overcome.
- Just 1:20 into the game, Jane Donio-Enscoe controlled the ball in the left side of the circle and found Clara Roth for a redirect at the near post to give the Tigers a quick 1-0 lead.
- Princeton doubled its lead at 13:53 when Sophia Tornetta attacked along the base line on the left side and slid a pass to the right post, where the ball bounced around before Taylor Nolan punched it in.
- The Tigers converted on a restart at 36:53 as an entry ball from Hannah Davey glazed off the stick of Ali McCarthy and in to provide a three-goal cushion.
GAME NOTES
- BU held a 3-2 advantage in penalty corners.
- Princeton had eight shots – just one more than their season low – while the Terriers recorded six shots.
- Senior goalkeeper Kathleen Keegan had one save for the Terriers while Grace Baylis also had one stop for the Tigers.
- All four of BU's losses this season have come against ranked teams.
UP NEXT
- BU will return to action in one week when it hosts No. 12 Harvard on Sunday, Oct. 7.
- Game time at New Balance Field is set for 2 p.m.
