Women's Lacrosse Defeats Fairfield, 16-5

BOSTON - Kailey Conry recorded five points and three Terriers tallied hat tricks to lead the Boston University women's lacrosse team to a 16-5 victory over Fairfield on Wednesday at Nickerson Field.
BU (3-1) won its third straight game thanks to four points apiece from Lexi Lewis, Makenzie Irvine and Kelly Mathews. Lewis, Irvine and Mathews each scored three goals and also added an assist. Conry chipped in two goals and three assists while Kaitlin Belval (2g), Molly Kern (1g, 1a) and Hannah Kenneally (2a) each secured two points apiece. Belval had an all-around outstanding game, as she finished with six draw controls, two caused turnovers and one ground ball.
Emily Vervlied scored a goal and finished the day with three caused turnovers and one ground ball. Mackenzie Howe also found the back of the net and added two ground balls.
BU forced 20 of Fairfield's 25 turnovers, with Tonianne Magnelli leading the way with four caused turnovers. Magnelli also collected four draw controls and two ground balls.
Bianca Smith made five saves in her first start of the season. The Terriers improved to 4-0 all-time against Fairfield (3-2).
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Conry picked up where she left off from an 11-point performance on Saturday, evening the score at one-all at the 23-minute mark.
- Fairfield never led again, as Belval worked her way to the net to put the Terriers ahead, 2-1, at 22:21.
- The Stags evened the score at 2-2, but the game was never tied again.
- After Lewis made it 3-2, Mathews took matters into her own hands when she intercepted a Fairfield clear attempt at midfield and took it the distance to push the lead to two.
- Following another score by the Stags, Conry worked from behind the cage to net her second goal of the day.
- From there, BU stayed hot on the attack as Irvine delivered a feed from Conry to kick off a 3-0 Terrier run in just over a minute.
- Kenneally found Lewis dodging from the top of the crease before Irvine snapped another goal, as BU doubled up Fairfield at the break, 8-4.
- The Terriers picked up where they left off to start the second half, churning out another 3-0 run to extend the advantage to 11-4 five minutes into the frame.
- Fairfield cut the deficit to 11-5 with 16:30 to play, but that was the last goal BU allowed as the Terriers scored the final five goals of the contest.
- BU attempted 37 shots to just 15 for the Stags, with 30 of those Terrier attempts finding the cage.
- The Terriers were 19-for-20 in the clearing game.
- BU held the edge in draw controls (15-7) and ground balls (26-17).
- Nine of the Terriers' 16 goals were assisted.
- The Terriers will host No. 24 USC on Sunday at Nickerson Field.
- Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
