
Terrier Trio Earns NFCA All-Region Accolades

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After helping the Boston University softball repeat as Patriot League regular season and tournament champions, senior Alex Heinen, sophomore Ali DuBois and freshman Emily Gant have claimed All-Northeast Region accolades, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced Thursday morning.
Both Heinen and DuBois became the seventh and eighth Terriers, respectively, to be named to the first team on two occasions with Jayme Mask ('14) the last to accomplish the feat. Gant was placed on the third team, as BU featured a Patriot League-high three All-Region honorees for the second consecutive season.
A native of San Clemente, California, Heinen is a two-time PL Player of the Year and BU record holder for career RBIs (155). She leads the Terriers (37-18) in hitting at .333 while adding 10 homers and 38 RBIs. Over the weekend, she earned PL Tournament MVP honors by batting 6-of-9 with two homers and four RBIs. She ranks tied-for-third all-time at BU in doubles (39), tied-for-fifth in homers (23) and seventh in hits (219) On the defensive end, she has served as the primary catcher for three of the last four PL Pitchers of the Year.
DuBois (23-9, 1.32 ERA) has been named the PL Pitcher of the Year each of her first two seasons and already ranks in the top eight all-time at BU in wins (t-4th / 51), shutouts (t-5th / 20) and strikeouts (6th / 388). The Torrington, Connecticut, native is the first Terrier pitcher to be recognized on the first team twice since Robyn King was honored in 2000-01. DuBois was nearly unhittable in conference play this year, as she held opponents to a .168 average. She currently ranks 20th nationally this season in ERA (1.32) and 34th with 196 strikeouts.
Gant (13-7, 1.56 ERA) also had a standout season in the circle, as BU became the first PL squad in four years to feature two All-Conference First Team pitchers. The Grove City, Ohio, native ranks 33rd nationally in ERA, 42nd in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.52), 53rd in strikeouts per seven innings (4.52) and 81st in hits allowed per seven innings (5.47). In conference play, she posted a 8-0 record with a miniscule 0.43 ERA.
The Terriers will next face No. 5 national seed Florida on Friday with the NCAA softball regional matchup set to begin at 2:30 p.m. on the SEC Network.
