
Heinen Earns Academic All-Patriot League Team Accolades

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – A day after repeating as the Patriot League Player of the Year, Boston University softball senior Alex Heinen was recognized for her efforts in the classroom with her first Academic All-Patriot League Team award, the conference announced Wednesday morning.
Owner of a 3.34 GPA, Heinen will be graduating from the College of Communication with a degree in film & television. She was named to the last two Patriot League Academic Honor Rolls for earing a GPA above 3.20 and had an exciting internship last summer at The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The San Clemente, California, native was also a top-30 finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, which is given to an NCAA Division I student-athlete who has notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
On the field, Heinen led the Terriers to their second consecutive regular season title by batting .373 in conference play with four doubles, two triples, two homers and 12 RBIs. She batted .314 for the season en route to a PL-high eight homers while adding 34 RBIs to move atop the BU record book for career RBIs. She also added PL Defensive Player of the Year accolades by throwing out 10 runners and catching for two All-PL First Team pitchers, sophomore Ali DuBois and freshman Emily Gant.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
