CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After helping lead the Boston University women's tennis team to its fifth Patriot League tournament final appearance in six years while also excelling in the classroom, senior Remi Ramos and sophomore Emily Kim have earned Academic All-Patriot League honors, the conference office announced Wednesday morning.
A three-time Patriot League All-Academic Team honoree and 2017 PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Ramos will graduate from BU with a degree in business administration and management. She currently owns a 3.80 GPA and is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete. The BU Department of Athletics honored her with the Gretchen Schuyler Award as the top female scholar-athlete at The Rhettys award ceremony in April.
On the court this year, Ramos collected nine wins during the dual season, including five at line 1, to earn her third overall All-PL award and second on the first team. The Parkland, Florida, native posted an impressive straight-sets win against Dartmouth to lead the Terriers to their first win over the Big Green since 2011, and later posted wins against Binghamton, Lehigh, Bryant and Lafayette while also winning a set against a nationally-ranked player from Boston College. She wrapped up her collegiate career winning her final three matches at line 2, highlighted by straight-set victories against Army. In doubles, she and Burchell teamed for a 12-4 spring record and won eight straight before dropping a heartbreaker to the Black Knights in the PL final.
A member of the 2019 PL Doubles Team of the Year alongside freshman Shelly Yaloz, Kim was a 2018 ITA Scholar-Athlete and member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll her freshman year. She currently owns a 3.81 GPA majoring in human physiology in Sargent College. On the court, the Plano, Texas, native earned her first All-PL (second team) award by finishing second at BU with 19 singles wins. She primarily played in the No. 3 slot and collected key wins against Harvard, Army, Bucknell and Lehigh. In doubles, she and Yaloz would finish with a stellar 25-7 record after winning their final 10 matches together, including three in the PL tournament by a combined score of 18-2 at line 2.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
