The Boston University field hockey team will face its toughest test thus far this season on Sunday (Sept. 29) when it visits No. 3 UConn. Game time in Storrs is set for 1 p.m.
The Terriers (3-4) will be looking to end a three-game losing streak, having last played eight days ago when they dropped a 1-0 contest to Bucknell in their Patriot League opener.
The Huskies come into Sunday with a record of 8-1 and most recently earned a 6-2 home victory over No. 22 Old Dominion on Friday to move to 2-0 in Big East play and stretch their current win streak to four games. Seven of their eight victories have come against ranked opponents.
UConn has six players with nine or more points and all of them are from Europe. Senior Svea Boker leads the squad in both points (19) and goals (8) while sophomore Abby Gooderham (5g, 4a) and freshman Sophie Hamilton (4g, 5a) have added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher has started all nine games in goal for the Huskies and has a 1.01 goals-against average to go along with a .804 save percentage.
For the Terriers, junior Ailsa Connolly has team highs of 12 points and five goals while freshman Jodie Conolly (2g, 2a) and Ellie McIntyre (3g) have contributed six points apiece. Eight different BU players have recorded a goal this season.
In goal, freshman Caroline Kelly has started in all seven contests thus far and sports a 2.34 goals-against average and a .698 save percentage.
This will be the 42nd meeting between BU and UConn with the Huskies holding a 33-8 advantage in the series, which dates back to 1982. The teams have met every season since the first meeting. Last year at New Balance Field, the Terriers put together one of their best efforts of the season before coming up short against UConn by a score of 2-1.
