BOSTON - The home-and-home series scheduled this weekend between Boston University and No. 6 Massachusetts will now start on Sunday (Jan. 17) in Amherst at 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised on NESN.
The teams will meet again on Monday (Jan. 18) at Walter Brown Arena. That game will begin at 3 p.m.
The Terriers (1-1-0) and Minutemen (9-3-1) will be meeting for the first time in 14 months as they split a home-and-home back on Nov. 15-16, 2019, with each team earning a win at its own rink. Since they first met on Jan. 16, 1920, the Terriers and Minutemen have played 82 times and BU holds a 63-14-7 record in the series. The Terriers are 22-9-4 in the 35 meetings that have taken place at Mullins Center and 20-1-0 in the 21 match-ups at Walter Brown Arena.
BU opened its season last weekend against Providence, posting a 6-4 road win on Saturday following a 7-3 setback at home on Friday in the opener. Senior
David Farrance was named Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week and is the only player in the country averaging over two points per game.
UMass currently sports a nation-best seven-game win streak and most recently earned a 4-0 shutout victory at home over UNH on Jan. 6. The Minutemen are 7-1 at home on their big sheet but an even 2-2-1 on the road.
Junior Bobby Trivigno leads all Hockey East players in points (18) and assists (13) while sophomore defensemen Matthew Kessel (8g, 6a) and Zac Jones (5g, 8a) have added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Â
